# Image Index - README

## Description

**Image Index** is your personal image database creator. It allows you to organize, browse, and share image files from your computer across a VPN, private network, or local network.

## Supported Formats

Image Index supports the following file formats:

`.jpg`, `.jpeg`, `.gif`, `.png`, `.webp`, `.bmp`, `.tiff`, `.pst`, `.pdf`, `.raw`, `.eps`, `.ai`, `.indd`, `.dwg`

Unsupported file formats will automatically be downloaded, allowing them to be opened with external applications.

## Additional Features

### Thumbnail Support

If a thumbnail image is saved with the same filename as the original image file, it will automatically be displayed alongside the original image.

Supported thumbnail formats:

`.jpg`, `.jpeg`, `.gif`, `.png`, `.webp`, `.bmp`

### Directory Structure Mirroring

The generated HTML structure mirrors your hard drive's directory structure, making navigation familiar and easy.

### Hidden Directories

You can exclude specific directories from Image Index by renaming them with the extension:

`_no or _private`

These directories will not be included in the generated index.

### Automatic Updates

Each time you start Image Index, you select the drive to scan. The HTML network is then created or updated automatically.

Any changes to your directory structure or image files will be reflected the next time Image Index starts.

### Enhanced Search

The search function is designed to provide more results while requiring fewer characters to be entered.

### Network Messaging

A list of your available networks is displayed.

Using a WebSocket extension for your internet browser, you can send messages between the server and all connected clients.

### CleanIndex

The **CleanIndex** option completely removes the generated HTML structure when you no longer wish to use Image Index.

### Customization

You can easily customize:

* `styles.css`

* `background.mp4`

* All sound output files

This allows you to personalize the appearance and experience of Image Index.

# Installation Instructions

### 1. Download

Download the ImageIndex package:

`ImageIndex.rar`

### 2. Extract

Extract the `.rar` archive using any compatible RAR extraction tool.

### 3. Install

Run:

`ImageIndex Installer.exe`

with administrator privileges.

**Important:**

If the program closes immediately after opening through the shortcut, manually enable administrator rights for the following files located in:

`C:\Program Files (x86)\Image Index`

Files:

* `CleanIndex.exe`

* `CleanUP.exe`

* `Image Index.exe`

# Running the Program

## Image Index Server (Host)

1. Double-click the **Image Index Server** icon or launch it using the shortcut.

2. Enter your VPN or localhost IP address and press **Enter**.

3. Enter the working directory where you want the Image Index to be created.

**Note:**

Image files are only read from subdirectories within the selected main directory.

Example:

If `D:\` is selected as the main directory, all image files contained within the subdirectories of `D:\` will be included.

4. Image Index will automatically open in your web browser.

## Image Index Visitors

1. Double-click the **Image Index Visitors** icon or use the shortcut.

2. Enter the VPN or localhost IP address provided by the Host user and press **Enter**.

3. Image Index will automatically open in your web browser.

## Image Index CleanUp

1. Double-click the **Image Index CleanUp** icon or use the shortcut.

2. The following prompt will appear:

   `"Do you want to clean up the Image Index immediately? (Y/N)"`

### If you select "No"

The CleanIndex Server will start after 20 seconds, allowing you to initiate the cleanup process directly from Image Index.

### Available Options

* Press **Y** for **Yes**

* Press **N** for **No**

**Note:**

CleanUp can only be used by the Host user and uses the most recently selected directory path that was used to create the Image Index.
